This is our memory verse for the entire 3 week series. Help the kids to remember it by reciting it with some hand gestures, like lifting your hands on “worshipped” etc.

INTRO

A good place to do this lesson with your children will be around the dinning room table. It would be good to have a few snacks on the table. Let each person choose a snack and then initiate the conversation:

“Who likes to eat?” “What is currently your favourite snack?” Discuss some answers and allow the conversation to develop.

Steer the conversation towards the series: “We are continuing our series that we started last week called, “Around the Table.” This series is all about gathering together and sharing special moments. The table was designed as a place for families and friends to come together to eat and share stories. These moments AROUND THE TABLE help shape us and our faith journey. In this series, we are exploring ways to strengthen our faith and love for Jesus, so we can create our own stories to share.”

PRAISE & WORSHIP

Here are two awesome videos that will get you and the kids moving and worshiping in no time:

GO ANSWER

Let’s take a look at our Go Answer for the day. Remember, the Go Answer is the answer to the question, “What did you learn today in Go Kids?”

Today’s Go Answer:

Let us discuss these two questions:

“WHAT DOES IT MEAN TO HAVE AN ATTITUDE?”

(AND)

“WHAT DOES IT MEAN TO HAVE AN ATTITUDE OF GRATITUDE?”

Allow everyone to answer and discuss these two questions freely, without correcting anyone.

LESSON INTRODUCTION & GAME

Do you remember today’s Go Answer? “I will have an attitude of gratitude”

Today’s lesson is called “Giving Thanks”

Have you had to eat something you did not like? Okay, let’s give a few examples. I remember when I was growing up, I always dreaded eating ____________. It definitely caused many a dinner table trial. Take a few examples from the kids that they don’t like eating before continuing on.

It can be difficult to say “thanks” for something that we do not enjoy eating. Today, we are going to be talking about what it looks like to give thanks in all things. How can we have an attitude of gratitude no matter what we are faced with?

We’ll learn about all that in just a moment, but first who’s ready for a game?!

Each week of our series, “AROUND THE TABLE,” we are going to play BABY FOOD ROULETTE. This is infamous game where we take your skills from your diaper-wearing days and we put them to the test against a worthy opponent!

BABY FOOD ROULETTE

I need 2 brave volunteers to come up and play this game. We are going to blindfold you and you’ll have to guess what flavor of baby food they feed you. You’ll only get 1 guess and you will both try the same flavor at the same time. As soon as you think you know the flavor, shout it out. Each correct answer will win 10 points. The person with the most points at the end of 3 rounds, wins!

Play game.

(Ensure you have a trash can/receptacle close by … just in case it’s needed.)

BIBLE STORY

Scripture Reference: Luke 17:11-19

Watch this story together. Also use the YouVersion App and listen to these verses on  the Audio Bible Setting.

Jesus noticed that the other nine did not come back and thank Him. Do you think that there are times that you have forgotten to come back and thank Jesus for all He has done in your life?

We need make sure that we are thanking Jesus for everything He does for us. Always be on the lookout for the blessings we need to give thanks for!

PRACTICAL APPLICATION

Make a list as a family of all the thing we can be grateful for, in spite of the current situation that has been created through the outbreak of Covid-19.

Also make a list of ways that we can express our gratitude by helping other people during this difficult time. Also write a short action plan on how to help others over the next 30 days.

Put both these lists and the action plan on the fridge and refer back to it daily for the next 30 days.

WRAP UP POINTS:

  1. I CAN BE THANKFUL FOR BIG AND SMALL THINGS

Don’t wait to show gratitude for only the big things that happen. Show an attitude of gratitude for all the small things. Amazing “small things” happen every day.
When we focus on looking for all the ways that God blesses us, we will never
stop seeing all the incredible things He does for us!

  1. I CAN (AND SHOULD) BE THANKFUL EVERY DAY

We should thank God every day for at least one thing. God is so good to us each and every day that He deserves an attitude of gratitude from us. On those days
when we think that everything is going wrong, it’s important to stop and realize just how GOOD God is and how much He blesses us!

CLOSING / RESPONSE / PRAYER

Lead the family in a time of prayer. God’s plan and purpose is revealed to us through spending time with Him in prayer, worship, and Bible reading… Create/foster a few moments that allow for this.

RESPONSE TIME

Challenge every family member to take time to check their hearts and ask God to show them if they are living without an attitude of gratitude.  Make time to pray with and for each other.
